The Darkness

where do you stuff the darkness?

that comes bubbling out of

the soul container–

a detritus of karmic debt

Or cosmic indifference

do you cram it

in your gullet

like fettuccine alfredo

as if the sauce won’t

reflux at 3:17 a.m.?

do you roll it tight

like a mass-produced cigarette

so it smolders

a dim black coal?

darkness

do you pack it

like surgical material

to stanch the inevitable bleeding?

my shadow’s shadow

mocks him

a plaything of

abbreviated afternoons

smothered by

the inky nights

the darkness is his bauble

he points at grim king
