Overview of Bob Marley
Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley was the most prolific Jamaican singer, songwriter, and musician. He is considered one of the godfathers of reggae music, but his was probably a mix of reggae, ska, and rocksteady. Over the course of his career, he became the Rastafari icon and his music was almost like a religion due to its overwhelming spirituality. Of course his love of marijuana contributed to this overall culture that comes along with his music. Bob Marley was born in Nine Mile, British Jamaica, and began his professional musical career in 1963, after forming Bob Marley and the Wailers. They released their first studio album in 1965, “The Wailing Wailers”, which contained the song “One Love/People get ready” that was popular across the globe. They went on from there to release eleven studio albums in the ’60s and early ’70s. The group actually moved to London around this time and released the album “The Best of The Wailers” in 1971. In 1973 they released two albums “Catch a Fire” and “Burnin” and gained a reputation as touring artists. After that, the Wailers disbanded in ’74 and Bob Marley went on to produce his solo material which included his debut album “Natty Dread”. Bob Marley survived an assassination attempt after the release of “Rastaman Vibration” in Jamaica where afterward he permanently moved to London.

Death
Bob Marley was diagnosed with acral lentiginous melanoma in 1977. He died as a result of it in 1981. In 1994 he was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame. He is considered one of the most top-selling artists of all time.
